Tips & Advice for Hen Parties
Rumour is that hen weekends first started after a Dutch father didn't agree with his daughter's choice of husband to be (a low income tradesman) and refused to provide her with a dowry. The Bride and Groom-To-Be's friends came to the rescue, offering them masses of presents, so a happy ending as she eventually got married and received her dowry!
About the Bridesmaid:
So, after months, and maybe years, of pressure from her other half, she has decided to wave goodbye to good sense and reason and embrace the scary world inhabited by husbands and fathers-in-laws.
She's asked you to be Chief Bridesmaid for the occasion, but wait, a word of warning is in order here. If she backs out at the last moment, loses her nerve, bottles it, whatever you want to call it, you, as her nearest and dearest, are traditionally obliged to step into her shoes and marry the Bridesgroom yourself! And being a "Bridesmaid" has to be one of the greatest jobs in the world. Just think of all the perks you get - organising a hen weekend, ordering everyone around, and you get to dance with the Best Man at the Wedding!
